BPC-157 is a synthetic linear pentadecapeptide: fifteen amino acid residues, H-Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val-OH, with a free amine at the N-terminus and a free carboxylic acid at the C-terminus. The sequence corresponds to a fragment of a larger peptide from gastric juice. Four of the fifteen residues are proline, three of them consecutive, and the chain carries three acidic side chains against a single lysine.
There is no cyclisation, lipidation or non-proteinogenic residue, so identity rests on sequence and mass: CAS number 137525-51-0, the molecular formula C62H98N16O22 and a molecular weight of 1419.53 g/mol. With no aromatic residue, the peptide absorbs mainly in the peptide-bond region around 214 nm, so reversed-phase HPLC with low-wavelength ultraviolet detection gives its profile and mass spectrometry confirms the expected mass. Each presentation is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial.
