About NAD+

NAD+ (β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a dinucleotide coenzyme, not a peptide: it contains no amino acids. Its two nucleotides, nicotinamide mononucleotide and adenosine monophosphate, are joined through a pyrophosphate (diphosphate) linkage, and each is built on a D-ribose sugar. The positive charge in the name sits on the nitrogen of the nicotinamide ring, and NAD+ is the oxidised member of the NAD+/NADH redox pair.

The catalogue lists CAS number 53-84-9, the molecular formula C21H27N7O14P2 and a molecular weight of 663.43 g/mol. The adenine ring absorbs strongly at 260 nm, the usual wavelength for HPLC of NAD+, while NADH shows an additional band at 340 nm that distinguishes it spectroscopically. Nicotinamide and ADP-ribose are the expected breakdown products, and water content matters because the solid is hygroscopic. Each presentation is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial.
