Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of GHRH: a peptide of forty-four amino acid residues with the sequence of GHRH(1–44), carrying an N-terminal trans-3-hexenoyl group. That acyl group is a six-carbon chain with one carbon–carbon double bond in the E (trans) configuration, attached to the N-terminal tyrosine.
The catalogue lists CAS number 218949-48-5, the molecular formula C221H366N72O67S and a molecular weight of 5135.9 g/mol. The single sulfur atom in the formula comes from the chain's one methionine; there is no cysteine and so no disulfide bridge. At this mass, identity is confirmed by electrospray mass spectrometry, deconvoluted from multiply charged ions to a neutral mass, and reversed-phase HPLC gives the chromatographic profile, in which the methionine sulfoxide, 16 Da heavier, is a typical related substance. Each presentation is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial.
